What a “church kid” should be (Part 1)

Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” – Mark 8:34

1. Humility – “Deny himself”

The one thing I see in many church kids lives is pride. The idea that they deserve . . . they have earned . . . . they ALREADY know . . .

Yet Jesus calls those who follow Him to “deny themself”.

The word “deny” has the idea of renouncing self. It is making Christ the gravity that holds their life together. We need to help them realize that the world does not revolve around them but around Christ. This is true humility.

Questions to seek clarity about whether they are humble:

  • Do they have a sense of “I deserve” or “I am blessed”?
  • Who or what do they talk about most? Check their facebook wall for starters.
  • How do they deal with correction?
