What a “church kid” should be (Part 3)

Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” – Mark 8:34

1. Humility – “deny himself”

2. Identity in Christ – “take up his cross”

3. Obedience to Jesus – “follow me”

In a world of having followers and following people (aka twitter), we lose the meaning of the word “follow”. The call to follow Jesus for a “church kid” is more than a casual relationship with an acquaintance on Sunday and Wednesday.

It is a call to everyday obedience.

It is a call to be “all in”.

The stuff they do on Sunday and Wednesday should just be an overflow of their obedience to Christ on the other 5 days of the week.

We must teach our “church kids” that losing their life for Christ and the Gospel is where they will find true life. (Mark 8:35)

  1. my son recently told me that kids at school don’t take anything serious… That every comment or question is turned into a joke… He expressed a desire to speak truth, and has tried, but it goes ‘nowhere’. How hard it is for our children to be lights in a world where nobody really cares! How do I encourage him to keep trying?
