Struggling with sin? . . . Me too.

Are you struggling with sin in your life?

Me too.

Knowing I could not settle with allowing sin to continue to distract me (I John 3:6), I began to think about how I need to deal with it. This particular morning I was in Job 26 and I read these verses:

7″He stretches out the north over the void
and hangs the earth on nothing.
He binds up the waters in his thick clouds,
and the cloud is not split open under them.
He covers the face of the full moon
and spreads over it his cloud.
10 He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters
at the boundary between light and darkness.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble
and are astounded at his rebuke.
12 By his power he stilled the sea;
by his understanding he shattered Rahab.
13 By his wind the heavens were made fair;
his hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways,
and how small a whisper do we hear of him!
But the thunder of his power who can understand?

And then it hit me: How did Job deal with sin even going through great adversity in his personal life? He had a HIGH view of God.

The way I deal with sin is not to focus on the sin, but to focus on the Lord. The allure of sin loses its luster in the burning light of the glory and majesty of God.

When I am staring at the Grand Canyon, I do not notice the mud at the bottom because I am consumed by the beauty/grandeur of the Grand Canyon. The same is true with God and sin. The more I am captured by the beauty/grandeur of God, the less distracting sin will be in my life.

So may we “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)
